Weekend Inspiration

Spring feels a lifetime away. Convincing myself I will eventually see blue skies and be able to wear less than 3 layers by focusing on Easter windows.

Current inspiration lies in pinwheels - something about them feels so carefree

We are installing the Valentine's Windows this week, I can't wait to share the amazing display!

Weekend Inspiration (on a Tuesday)

Whoops! the majority of my Sunday was spent eating party rings and watching films rated under 5/10 on imdb. Crucial business.

But I did stumble across this gorgeous heart hanging display from Advice From A Twenty Something. I think it would make a really effective, simple window display.

Weekend Inspiration

Dreaming of sunny days after being frozen while out and about today.

Large ferns, big pink flamingos and comedy sunglasses would make a kitsch tropical paradise.

Halloween Windows - Menswear & Sloane Street

My previous Halloween posts can be found here and here

I had no participation in these two windows as Menswear and Sloane Street are usually done on different days, due to the Sunday of the instillations are so busy.

Mens, 23 South Molton Street, focused on bats, with one stunning and hypnotising backdrop featuring 3d paper bats swarming out.

The menswear shop is my favourite space from all of Browns, it's very restrained and classic but still contemporary. That being said I always find this window the hardest to visualise, as I've never studied or really worked with menswear. I really like that the fashion veered away from a classic "Batman" vibe with all black and instead used bold prints and splashes of colour.

I had never been to Browns on Sloane Street until very recently, but I always admire that they have an entirely unique window concept. It would be very easy to just make a slightly smaller version of the same design and call it a day, but they have entirely their own plans and artwork.

Taking the spider web theme from 27 and creating mirrored and graphic displays made the design feel fresh and new. Add a couple of the paper spiders and some branded vinyls creates an entire display out of a simple plinth.

That's it for my Halloween focus! I hope everyone enjoyed these windows as much as I did - going through the images again has really inspired me. I think a lot of concepts used in these windows could be redesigned and redeveloped to use again at some point in Browns.

Halloween Windows - 26 & 25

My previous Halloween window post can be found here.

26 South Molton Street is my favourite window to design for, as it's the most challenging. It's a very small, thin space which can be tricky to work with. I think this window idea works perfectly, and I love the miniature shelves which hold the accessories - how perfect is the snakeskin Celine bag?

The cat's face is stylised perfectly, I love how it's intimidating and eery without being unattractive. The lighting also works really well here, with the spotlights being focused on the cat's eyes, so they almost look like they're glowing.

The 25 window is one of the most simplistic yet effective I have ever worked on. I absolutely adore how it turned out.

Trapped in a gilded cage, this poor mannequin is being attacked by these detailed and intricate crows. Again they are made from paper, and I think they are absolutely stunning. The front facing cage is a window vinyl, and a perspex one at the back means the window looks 3D without having to actually install a 6 foot birdcage.

I think this image, taken from inside the shop, shows the technicalities a bit more. I think this window is when I decided that I really wanted to know more about Visual Merchandising, as I just fell head over heels for the concept.

Halloween Windows - 27

As there is so much detail in I'm going to talk about these windows in a series, however I don't think I could ever describe it as well as the article in Retail Design World, who featured us as VM Choice! Read the full article here.

The Halloween window was the best window I've worked on. Everyone was in a good mood, it went relatively smoothly and ended up looking absolutely stunning. The spider web in the main 27 window is so delicate, I think it made a potentially "tacky" holiday look very elegant.

The fashion worked really well for this window as well. Normally we leave the mannequins bald, but the black wig and cat ears added a really fun element, as well as the clashing brights.

On a personal level I hate it when Halloween decorations have realistic spiders, but these paper cut beauties didn't intimidate me at all!

The centre of the spider web, of course, included a B. I love how Browns always personalise the windows in some way, by incorporating Browns and Bs into the set design in a cheeky, unique way. It reminds me of the hidden mickeys at Disneyland, like an inside joke with the customer.
